ShipStation Stock

Your ShipStation stock is much easier to manage when you tie your ShipStation account to SOS Inventory using our API. While ShipStation does afford your business some limited inventory control, synching it with your SOS account will automatically update your inventory counts.

In your ShipStation account, you can import and export csv files to share data across platforms, but that process is tedious and requires logging and out of different accounts. API integration is seamless and keeps both software on point with the same data.

Manual ShipStation Inventory Management

If just getting started with the setup from your ShipStation account, you will need to enter your initial inventory levels by uploading a csv file. Within it, you may include your SKU, product names, counts, location and reorder points. (The SKU and stock columns are required).

If you need to export this file from ShipStation, you may do so from the “Products” tab, then selected “inventory,” then “export,” then choose the first radio button “Export ALL standalone and variant products with or without inventory” and, finally, “export now.” You will then be prompted to save compressed .zip file to your device.

When updating these inventory counts manually, you would now unzip your compressed file and edit the csv to include accurate inventory counts for each item. When editing, be sure to leave all your columns intact. Naturally, if you are making updates via SOS, SOS Inventory software will do this all for you automatically. Watch step-by-step instructions for creating this synchronization here.

Once updated, you will use the import feature to upload your modified csv file. Be sure not to remove any data that may be needed even if not updated as the uploaded file will overwrite the old one in ShipStation.

shipstation stockChanging a product’s warehouse location manually is a bit more complicated requiring the original product be updated to a zero-stock level and a new item entered on a separate line to include the new location. In SOS, this action is done behind the scenes for you by simply synching whatever you do within your SOS account to update ShipStation accordingly.

Uploading inventory from multiple warehouses manually requires each location be uploaded separately, as the location must be selected in the process of doing the upload.

Setting up ShipStation inventory tracking can be initiated from within your SOS Inventory account. In SOS, navigate to the settings tab and selected ShipStation setup. From there, simply follow the instructions provided to configure your ShipStation account to use with SOS Inventory. At this point, you may use the shipping carrier of your choice.

In the ShipStation app, choose “Update Stores” to import shipments from SOS. From there, you will print labels with ShipStation, and then tracking information is sent back to SOS Inventory. To post to SOS right away, you can alter your notification settings in the store setup to “send marketplace notification when label is created.”
